Welcome to the Northwest District of the North Mississippi Conference
"Where Faith Meets Preparation."
A Word from Your Presiding Elder
Grace and peace to you in the name of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.
Whether you're a pastor serving faithfully in our Northwest District or someone searching for a church home where the Gospel is preached with power and lived out in truth, I welcome you to this spiritual family.
Our district stands in the proud tradition of the African Methodist Episcopal Church — a church born from the cry for freedom and sustained by a commitment to serve God and uplift our communities. From Richard Allen's vision to this present day, we've been called to be more than just Sunday worshipers. We're called to be disciples who transform lives, strengthen families, and bring hope from the Foothills of Kosciusko, along the Western Border of I-55 to the levees of the Mississippi River up to the Southern Border of Tennessee, throughout the Dusty Delta and beyond.
To our pastors: Thank you for your faithful service and spiritual leadership. You are not alone in this ministry. This district exists to support, encourage, and walk alongside you as we fulfill the Great Commission together.
To those seeking a church home: You'll find no perfect church, but you'll find authentic faith, genuine fellowship, and a community committed to helping you grow in your relationship with Christ. We'd be honored to have you join us.
Let's continue this journey of faith together.
In Christian love,
Presiding Elder Archie R. Smith District Consultant Valerie T. Smith Northwest District - North Mississippi Conference, AME Church

Our youth and young adult ministries are raising up the next generation of leaders who don't just talk about faith — they live it through service, activism, and community transformation.
Through R.A.Y.A.C. (Richard Allen Youth and Adult Council) and our Young People’s and Children’s Division, young people ages 2-26 connect for worship, leadership development, and hands-on ministry that honors our AME Church legacy of liberation and social justice. From organizing community service projects to advocating for change in the Mississippi Delta and beyond, our youth are continuing the tradition Richard Allen started—using faith as a catalyst for real-world impact.
Whether it's feeding the hungry, mentoring peers, or speaking truth to power, our young people understand that following Christ means standing up for justice and serving those who need it most.
The future of faith and activism is here. Join the movement.
Community outreach in the Northwest District isn't just about charity—it's about continuing the AME Church's 200-year legacy of social activism and liberation. From Richard Allen's fight against slavery to today's battles for economic justice and civil rights, we're called to be agents of change in North Mississippi and beyond.
Our outreach ministry tackles real issues: feeding families through our food pantry, mentoring youth who need guidance, providing emergency assistance to neighbors in crisis, and advocating for policies that uplift our community. We don't just pray about problems—we roll up our sleeves and address them head-on, because faith without works is dead.
Whether it's partnering with local organizations to fight food insecurity, hosting community health clinics, or standing up for justice when it matters most, we're carrying forward the AME tradition of being the church that speaks truth to power while serving those who need it most.
This is what liberation theology looks like in action.
Prayer meeting isn't just a midweek gathering—it's where we tap into the very source of our strength. When life feels overwhelming, when the weight of the world sits heavy on your shoulders, this is where you bring it all to God and leave renewed.
We believe prayer isn't optional for believers—it's essential. It's how we connect with the God who hears us, transforms us, and empowers us to face whatever comes our way. We gather not out of obligation, but out of need. We need God's wisdom for our decisions, His peace for our anxious hearts, and His strength for our weary bodies.
Here, your burdens become lighter because we carry them together. Your faith becomes stronger because we stand together. Your prayers become powerful because we believe together.
Join us. Your breakthrough might be one prayer away.
In the Northwest District, churches gather to dig deep into Scripture—not just to read it, but to understand it, live it, and be transformed by it. This is where 2 Timothy 2:15 becomes our mission: to study and show ourselves approved unto God, rightly dividing the word of truth.
Bible study here isn't about surface-level discussion. We're committed to serious engagement with God's Word, asking tough questions, wrestling with Scripture's application to our daily lives, and equipping ourselves to be effective witnesses for Christ. Whether you're a longtime student of the Bible or just beginning your journey, you'll find a community that values both deep study and practical application. Bible studies are available both in person and virtually. Contact the church in your area for days and times.
Spiritual counseling at Northwest District churches means sitting down with a pastor who genuinely cares about what you're going through—not just on Sundays, but in the real moments when life feels overwhelming. Whether you're navigating grief, struggling with difficult decisions, or searching for clarity in confusion, our pastors offer confidential, compassionate guidance rooted in Scripture and prayer.
This isn't about judgment or quick fixes. It's about having someone who will walk alongside you through every season, helping you find God's wisdom for your specific situation and discovering the peace that comes from knowing you're not facing life's challenges alone.
